Seed Oils

Seed oils are what we often call vegetable oils. They’re extracted from the seeds of various plants. We cook with them all the time. Have you ever thought about Seed Oil and the potential health benefits and the drawbacks of these types of oils. Are they really Good or Bad for us? They are found in many of the packaged foods and the cooking oils that we buy and use at home everyday. They’re even in the food at the restaurants we go to. Sure, there are benefits to some of these seed oils, like sesame. But… definitely not for me.

The Day Sesame Seeds Tried to Take Me Out (A Grandma’s Bad Experience)

I like to tell you about a bad experience of how I found that out. At least for me. To start off with: I want you to know that not all seed oil is good for some people and bad for others. Anyways, I was very surprised when I had gotten an allergy attack from eating dinner. It was take out. That has never happened to me before. Now this was from a restaurant but I have eaten there before. I liked the fried rice there. My face started to swell up. First it was only a little bit but then it got worse. I waited till the next day to go to the urgent care.

DUMB ME! It was bad – the swelling of my face. At the urgent care, they gave me two shots to help. I waited and about 15 – 20 minutes later I had a seizure. Still to this day, I still do not know why that happened. Took tests and found out that I was allergic to Sesame Seeds. In the meantime, I found out afterward that they changed ownership and changed the way they cooked their food. With Sesame seed oil. I crossed them off my list. It was a sad day to do that.   • Minerals: Some seed oils, like pumpkin seed oil, are rich in minerals such as zinc and magnesium.
  • Phytosterols                                                                                   Plant-Based Sterols: These compounds can help lower cholesterol levels by competing with cholesterol for absorption in the intestines.

Antioxidants from Seed Oils  

Phytochemicals: Seed oils contain various phytochemicals with which can help protect against cell damage and chronic diseases.  

  • Fiber
  • Soluble Fiber: There are some seed oils, like flaxseed oil, that contain soluble fiber because it aids in digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and supports heart health.

Remember: While seed oils offer numerous benefits, it’s essential to consume them in moderation and as part of a balanced diet. The specific nutritional content and potential benefits can vary depending on the type of seed oil.
