One day, he asked his mama, “Why is Grandma grumpy all the time?” My daughter just laughed and told him, “That’s just the way she talks, honey. It’s a firm voice, but it’s a voice of love. It’s nothing but Love that comes out of her. Grumpy but Love”
That stuck with me! It’s how he separates his two grandmas, and it’s how I run this site. I’m firm about the truth, firm about quality, and firm about looking out for my family. And that includes you.
Who is the Woman Behind the “Grumpy” Voice?
My name is Carmen, and I’m a retired working woman, a wife, and a mama to three grown children. Two wonderful daughters and a son. I’m also a grandma to three beautiful grandchildren, with a fourth one on the way! I count my blessings every single day, but my path to getting here wasn’t always a straight line.
I’ll be honest with you: back in high school, I was a bit of a trouble maker. I “was like a gang banger”. I’m not proud of every choice I made back then, but I did have fun back then. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It taught me how to be tough, how to stand back up from hard knock downs and how life was and is. To be you.
When my first baby arrived, everything changed in an instant. I was only 24 years old, but I knew I had to provide. I left that wild life behind and started becoming responsible. And let me tell you, I have worked! I spent most of my career in manufacturing, working in “clean rooms” making integrated circuits. It was precise, high-pressure work with long hours. I’ve slung pizzas, done sales, and did whatever it took to keep my family fed and safe.
Trading the Freeway for the Home Office
For years, my life was defined by the “daily grind.” If you’ve ever lived in Southern California, you know exactly what I mean. Driving through that awful city traffic, white-knuckling it on the freeway just to get to a job that kept me away from my home.
Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and it forced an unexpected retirement. At first, it was a shock. But then, I realized it was a gift. I was finally done with the stressful commutes. I was ready for a change. Something different, something I could build for myself right here in the comfort of my own space. That is how this community was born.

This website is meant to be a place where you can just relax. I’ve organized it into categories so you can browse around for unique items that actually make sense for a real budget.
I love finding things that bring a little joy or solve a problem. For example, I recently found a fake owl for my yard. The birds were eating my red chiles and these were some HOT chiles, too! I put that owl on a stick right in the middle of my six-foot Chile Tree. When my daughter and grandson came over, I took them to the back to show them.
My daughter saw that owl, grabbed me, and pushed me in front of her like a human shield! She screamed! I asked her, “Why did you throw me under the bus?” She just laughed and said she knew I’d protect her because I’m her mom. We laughed our butts off once she realized it wasn’t a real bird. That’s the kind of love and fun I want to share here. Honest stories and products that actually work.
